Yes. CCHP will be open-sourced on GitHub under the AGPL license this fall, and from that point everyone can read the source, download it, distribute it, and deploy it for free. Within everything the AGPL permits, CCHP costs nothing.

Only for uses that fall outside the AGPL’s free grants. If a company or individual wants to build closed-source, profit-oriented modifications of CCHP, or a cloud vendor wants to run CCHP as part of paid infrastructure or a service they sell, those uses require purchasing a custom license from the CCHP developer community.

A paid arrangement includes — but isn’t limited to — custom development within an agreed scope, custom packaging and distribution, and the right to a license change for your deployment.

Pricing depends on your business scale, scope, use case, and how CCHP is ultimately presented to your users. We want CCHP to be accessible open software, so we keep the bar for individuals to use and audit the code as low as possible. Vendors doing custom development and private deployments are warmly encouraged to contribute their work back as open source — and we’re glad to offer discounts for that.

It’s negotiated case by case — pricing depends on the factors above, and we genuinely aim for a number both sides are comfortable with. Every dollar of license revenue goes back into CCHP: ongoing development, infrastructure like this website, and salaries and stipends for full-time maintainers.
